In between, the world is changing drastically, advanced technology becomes commonplace, and all of it is done with one family at its core. The story begins with an elderly man getting ready to leave this world and ends with a very similar, but very different man actually leaving the world. He talks about global warming, the power of corporations and the government, the inequality between the "haves" and "have-nots", corruption, laws passed presumably to keep people safe, but really are just there to intrude on our lives, the power of religion, and the ways the vast majority of people can be led astray, or "enslaved", by a charismatic leader. This series was about family, technology, the future, and the past, but I particularly liked the way the author worked in references to the world we live in today.
